6 tips against garlic breath

One of the most used things in our kitchen is the garlic pot. The white bulb I'm talking about makes everything delicious. Homemade hummus? Garlic. Quick pasta? Garlic. Fresh pesto? Garlic. Pot with mussels on the stove? Extra garlic. Chicken from the oven? A belly full of garlic. Not only because we are incredibly fond of the fragrant cloves, but garlic is also very healthy. It not only helps to enlarge your blood vessels and lower your blood pressure, but it also has a positive effect on your cholesterol. Garlic has antibacterial properties and kills bacteria that cause infections. Oh yes, do you often get bitten by mosquitoes? Garlic not only repels men but also mosquitoes. What am I saying? Super healthy and so don't skip it just because you stink from your giggle the day after.

The annoying smell arises because our digestion doesn't know what to do with allylmethylsulfide (AMS), one of the components of garlic. AMS leaves the body after eating garlic through breath or sweat. If you also suffer from that day after smell, then this is what you can do about it.

1. Eat an apple

An apple, not only for thirst but also against nasty stinky smells. Eating an apple works best to neutralize unpleasant garlic breath. This is shown by research from American professor Sheryl Barringer of Ohio State University.

2. Floss your teeth

By cleaning the spaces between your teeth with some dental floss, a little brush, or a toothpick, you remove bacteria that cause odors.

3. Drink milk during the meal

Research from the Institute of Food Technologists shows that the garlic smell in your mouth decreases by as much as fifty percent if you drink a glass of milk after your garlic meal. Even better? A glass of white wine with your meal. I'll skip it for now, okay?

4. Fresh

If you love garlic, try to eat fresh cloves. Research has shown that you smell more from dried garlic. It's better to also cut out the heart of the garlic, as that gives you the worst breath.

5. Drink water with lemon juice and mint

Make sure you have a large pitcher of lemon water and sprigs of mint ready the day after. It helps. Really.

6. Parsley

My mother always had a jar of fresh parsley in the kitchen. Because even a fresh leaf of this herb works wonders. Chew on it for a while to really have an effective result.
