AMSTERDAM – Vuurtoreneiland
Some time ago, I was invited by La Mer to have lunch on Vuurtoreneiland. It was already quite a thing that I could just join without having to wait months in line, but having lunch at this special location is unique. Normally, the restaurant is only open for dinner. If you want to dine in a special way in Amsterdam this summer, Vuurtoreneiland is the place to be. After a boat trip of about 45 minutes with a glass of wine and a tasty amuse, you arrive at the beautiful island and after a short walk, you reach the greenhouse where you sit down for a delicious dinner. With an incredibly beautiful view over the water, you truly eat the stars from the sky here. Pure, honest, and with an explosion of flavors.
UTRECHT – Watertoren
In the Rotsoord district in Utrecht-South stands a beautiful old water tower from the early last century. It is quite a climb before you can sit at the table, but then you have something. Just kidding, there is an elevator for the lazy ones among us. From the top of the water tower, you have a grand view over the beautiful city, of course with the Dom Tower. The restaurant has two different floors, each with its own atmosphere. On the ninth floor, you dine intimately in cozy seating areas by small windows around the open kitchen, and on the tenth, it all feels a bit more industrial and modern. Be early, because you cannot reserve for a specific floor, so first come, first served...
MAASTRICHT – Beluga
In my beloved Maastricht, located by the famous Maas: Restaurant Beluga loves You. It is the place where star chef Hans van Wolde cooks the stars from the sky with love. Depending on your mood, you can eat in the restaurant, at the bar with a view of the open kitchen, or at a special love table in the kitchen. In the gigantic open space, there are only round tables, which makes me intensely happy. You see white walls and natural tones with a gigantic tree in the center of the space that changes with the season. Hans not only impresses you with his culinary skills, but he also scores sky high in terms of interior design.
THE HAGUE – Mama Kelly
Take an old industrial building (namely the old Cabalero factory) on a secluded site, approval from the municipality, an incredibly beautiful terrace by the water, and a clear concept: success guaranteed. If you have a day planned in The Hague, make sure to book a table at Mama Kelly. You can dine there cozily with a large group of friends, but it’s also perfect for a romantic date with your loved one. The choice is huge; a grilled chicken or perhaps a luxury lobster? One thing is for sure: you will definitely come back.
OUDDORP – Werelds aan het Strand
Werelds aan het Strand is a unique restaurant on a beautifully reclaimed island in the Grevelingenmeer in Ouddorp. Eye-catchers at Werelds are the six copper-colored thousand-liter beer tanks hanging above the concrete bar, the two vintage spiral staircases, and the amazing glass wine cellars built under the stairs to the loft. The atmospheric rugs, vintage Persian carpets, soft cushions, and leather lounge sofas make the restaurant intimate and cozy. Make sure to go up one floor for a glass of wine on one of the two sun-drenched terraces when the weather is nice. Or bring your bikini, because there’s also a beach area. Mr. Perfect, will you pick me up by boat? Even a docking station has been thought of.
