Proven: women with a bob are more successful than women with long hair

Have you been doubting for a while whether you want to visit the hairdresser? Here is your answer: go.

Because scientific research shows that women with hair down to their shoulders (so with a good old bob) are more successful than ladies with much longer locks. When we talk about long hair, we mean hair that can at least dangle over the shoulders. How come? At work, it seems that you are taken more seriously if you have a bob. It looks less youthful, neater, and thus somewhat more experienced.

It has been proven that the top of the top of power women opts for short hairstyles (which can be very sexy ). Other studies confirm this hairdresser fact, and it applies to both younger and older girls. Long hair is actually not done for all business girls. Ouch, that hurts a bit to read.

And that's not all: researchers suggest that as a working woman, you better not have gray hair. For men, a bit of gray seems to come across as strong and confident, but that does not apply to women in the workplace. Moreover, the latest ‘hair-at-work rule’: waves are allowed, but no busy bush of curls.

Now I don't have curls or am gray (well, a bit gray-blond, but that's trendy, right, so that doesn't count) – but I do love my long strands. Long as in definitely over my shoulders. But yes... Now doubt sets in. Should I make an appointment with my hairdresser after all? Maybe just a centimeter off first, to get used to it. I’ll just become a tad more successful step by step. And I’ll leave the curling iron in the bathroom cabinet, I promise.

BLONDE OR DARK: THE NUMBERS

  • A dark (natural) hair growth is the most common color in our country. No less than 45 percent of Dutch women are brunettes.
  • In Europe, on average, the most (natural) blonde people live. In our country, you find the most blondes in the province of Groningen.
  • Red hair is very rare: it occurs in only 1 to 2 percent of the population.
