CRATE SLIM
It was Friday. I was comfortably typing at home in my sweatpants when Simone texted me. A crate had actually been delivered to me at Amayzine with all sorts of delicious products and recipes inside. She asked if I had time to pick it up. (I thought I read between the lines that she wouldn't mind if it didn't work out, so she could take my crate home, hehe). Now, it's not often that something is delivered for me, so just that fact made me very excited. Booked a Greenwheels (because I was hoping for something BIG), combed my hair, and I immediately headed to the editorial office.
That Crate Slim, as it's called, is an invention of ‘The Secret of Slim People’ - Mieke Kosters and De Krat. De Krat delivers you a crate (duh) every week with three local, honest, and mostly organic meals and detailed cooking instructions. I already knew the concept of De Krat. Like everyone else, I think I have often been approached by the HelloFresh people at the supermarket, to the point that I once hid behind the empty bottle container or pretended to have fake phone conversations. I didn't like the idea of someone else deciding what I was going to eat. I always think I'm so creative and versatile myself. But in practice, it turns out that I make spaghetti bolognese way too often and get takeout meals from Marqt and Poké Perfect.
“I'm already curious about what I'm going to eat next week.”
So, Crate Slim. The idea behind it is that you decide how ‘slim’ your meal becomes. Mieke explains in a handy little book where the extra calories are and how you can skip them. For example, you had the option to prepare the beet risotto without goat cheese (then you went from S to XS); that saved you 50 calories. And if you ate the chicken ragout without rice, you went from M to S. But honestly, I couldn't care less about those calories. Because how delicious were those meals! I ate confit duck leg. Confit duck leg! As if I would have ever thought of that myself! Everything was equally delicious and flavorful and super easy to prepare. I'm a reasonably handy cook myself, but I think even the most cooking-impaired princesses can handle this. Yes, you too, Kiki.
With a guilty conscience towards the HelloFresh people whom I always brushed off with some arrogance, I immediately took a subscription to Crate Slim. Starting next week, a crate with three amazing meals will be delivered to me every Monday evening. That means: no more thinking about what you're going to eat, being surprised every week, and going to the supermarket less often. I'm already curious about what I'm going to eat next week.
