THE 8 MOVIES TO LOOK FORWARD TO THIS YEAR
Tomorrow evening, the Golden Globes will take place in Los Angeles, the official kick-off of the awards season. Read this Just a quick reminder in case you forgot who is nominated. Look, sometimes the annoying thing about Hollywood is that many films are not released simultaneously in the Netherlands, so we haven't been able to admire some contenders in the cinema yet. But no worries, they are on their way, you know. These are at least eight films that I am really looking forward to for the movie date nights I will have in 2017.
Manchester by the Sea – January 19
It will be a few weeks until the Oscar nominations are announced, but Casey Affleck is currently a favorite for many due to his role as Lee Chandler in Manchester by the Sea. Fortunately, we will be able to discover in a few days whether that is justified or not.
Moonlight – January 26
Another favorite that is in the running to take home multiple awards this year. It revolves around the life of a young African American man in America and all the life struggles he encounters regarding identity and sexual orientation. Let's see how many Golden Globes (six nominations, by the way) this film wins tomorrow.
T2 Trainspotting – February 16
Diehard fans have had to wait a whopping twenty years for a sequel to the classic from ’96, but it’s finally here. And although I often struggle with sequels, this is one for which I will take my seat in a cinema with popcorn in hand on February 16. What about you?
Jackie – February 16
Another favorite for many awards, and fortunately, we can just catch this one before the Oscar ceremony that will take place on February 26. Will Natalie Portman take home her second Best Actress Award for her role as Jackie Kennedy?
Beauty and the Beast – March 29
YES, YES, YES. Man, the struggle for someone who is impatient is real with this one, you know. I want to see it.
The Circle – May 11
Have you the book Have you read it in the meantime?
Despicable Me 3 – June 29
Need a babysitter on June 29? I offer myself outside. So you understand that I could live off that for weeks when I got home, but then as a little treat, I just up. Steve Carell as Gru, I can't get enough of it.
Dunkirk – July 20
A One Directioner in a movie, I find it something. But well, that shouldn't be the reason why you want to see this film. The story takes place during World War II when Allied soldiers were surrounded by the German army. The direction is done by Christopher Nolan, the man behind hits like The Dark Knight and Inception. So, let's say we have that scheisse summer weather again in July, then you can nicely dive into the cinema.
