The coolest new hotspots in Amsterdam
Do you know what is so nice about living in Amsterdam? That there is a cool, new hotspot every week.Heaven for foodies like me. My list of trendy places that I definitely need to try again has grown so much in a year that I will never fully check it off. If you have nothing planned for the weekend or if a day in Amsterdam is on your agenda and you have no idea where to go (avoid the tourist spots), then these are.
the six places you definitely need to try 1. NELIS West.
Since this spring, the successful NELIS Oost in Amsterdam has a little brother: NELIS West. Just outside the center, in the Baarsjes, you can relax and enjoy familiar international dishes in a modern outfit. If you decide to drop by, I’ll give you one tip, okay two. Go for the prawns and definitely don’t skip the thinly sliced entrecôte.
2. Vatten Ramen.
If the night has been short and the alcohol has flowed abundantly, I crave only one thing, and that is a big bowl of steaming ramen noodles. None other than Michelin chef Hideto Kawahara recently opened his first ramen heaven on Kerkstraat. But soon the second one will follow on Zeedijk. In 2013, Hideto’s ramen were awarded as the best ramen in Manhattan, so what are you waiting for?
The city is richer by a tropical paradise in De Pijp. This new hotspot is the place where you can drink a coffee on the swing or join the colorful terrace for a delicious summer salad.
3. De Tulp
4. Restaurant ZUID.
Masterchef Michiel van der Eerde has done it for the third time. After C and BAUT, the famous chef recently opened restaurant ZUID in, yes, Amsterdam-Zuid. The menu features both classic and modern dishes, all prepared by the chef himself. ZUID is warm and intimate and accessible to everyone. The place to slurp an oyster, but it’s also a good spot for a spit-roasted chicken and a craft beer.
5. The Dutch Weed Burger Joint.
You’ve probably seen the famous burgers from The Dutch Weed Burger at some festival. After five years of making burgers in a food truck, the first real permanent location finally opens in Amsterdam-West.
6. Mr. & Mrs. Watson.
Vegan comfort food in the heart of East with the most Instagrammable cheesecake ever, waffles, pizzas, wraps, and my absolute favorite dish on earth: pad thai. And anyone who says that vegans can’t have cheese should rush to Watson. Yes, really: a vegan cheese platter is on the menu here.
