The most popular destinations for newbie solo travelers
So you're going to travel solo for the first time? Nice. Once, Lies wrote a number of tips on how to best travel alone, but if you're still searching for a destination; Elke at your service. And also a little bit of Booking.com, because they have researched which ten destinations are the most popular for people packing their suitcase for a solo trip for the first time.
1. Paris
Well, I can only agree with this. My favorite city in the world and definitely a location that is easy to explore on your own. And, perhaps most importantly, it's not that far. If you're heading that way soon; coincidentally, I wrote about my favorite dining spots in the city.
2. Barcelona
Also not too far from our cold frog country and a perfect place if you're looking for a location where the climate is always pleasant, you have a combination of city and beach life, but definitely also a must-see for anyone who loves architecture, especially everything by Antoni Gaudí.
3. London
We're still in Europe, because in third place you find the British capital where you can be in less than an hour by plane. Especially Shoreditch turned out to be a favorite among Booking.com users, along with visiting Buckingham Palace and strolling through Camden Town and Harrods.
4. Vienna
Art and culture are especially prominent in Vienna. From the many museums to the popular tram to Belvedere Palace and Prater Park. Vienna is charming and definitely a city you shouldn't forget if you can book another trip.
5. Malaga
Or you can hop on a plane and fly to the Costa del Sol. Malaga has nice weather, it's heaven for foodies with Mercado Atarazanas, where you can eat the tastiest Spanish tapas every day.
6. Venice
You might think this is only fun as a romantic getaway, but Venice also turns out to be popular for flying there on your own. Okay, being alone in a gondola might not be that fun, but there are plenty of other tourist and cultural activities to do where you definitely don't need a plus one.
7. Rome
Is quite high on my must-visit list thanks to all the historical sights. I used to be a real history buff (that's what I call it, because history was always one of my favorite subjects) and if there's one city with a rich history, it's Rome.
8. Sydney
And now we're going a bit out of Europe. But really far away towards down under, because Sydney is said by Booking.com to be one of the most beautiful cities for anyone traveling solo for the first time. From the Blue Mountains to the Sydney Opera House and climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, you definitely won't be bored for a minute here.
9. Zurich
Perfect for a long weekend away and also one of the trendiest cities in all of Europe. Tip from travelers who have been here: rent a bike and explore the city that way.
10. Berlin
Last but not least, we head towards our German neighbors, to a city that has it all: culture, history, lots of food, and a notorious nightlife. They might always say that New York is the city ’that never sleeps’, but I don't know, I secretly think it's really Berlin that deserves that title. Want to know what Team Amayzine would recommend?
