The new cocktail trend of the moment: espresso-tonic
Some food trends are so bizarre that you just have to try them. In London, I had my first espresso martini, the best in the world at that moment. I was a bit less happy when I found myself staring at the ceiling two hours later. The espresso martini had to make way for a new coffee hit, namely the espresso-tonic. And you don't have to go to London for that, because many Amsterdam baristas are now serving the new trendy drink right in front of you. If, like me, you are addicted to a good cup of coffee, then prepare yourself for the espresso-tonic. Bitter, fresh, and full of aromas. Without alcohol, but with a hefty kick caffeine.
Sounds strange, but actually the combination is quite logical. The bitterness of the tonic pairs extremely well with the bitterness of the espresso. This new alcohol-free coffee hit is not only intensely delicious but also very easy to make yourself. All you need are a pile of ice cubes, good tonic water, and a fresh cup of espresso. Then you can garnish your glass just like with the all-time favorite gin and tonic with a slice of lime, a sprig of mint, or a basil leaf. Note: don't drink it too late. Because before you know it, you'll be staring at the ceiling.
