The cocktail trend of the moment

Good news on this sunny Sunday, girlfriends. Maybe not for everyone, I can imagine there are some hungover readers among us, something to do with Gay Pride and lots of delicious drinks on a boat (check how to get rid of that hangover quickly). But for the rest, who are thirsty in the sun, this is fun. I want to talk to you about the new cocktail trend of the moment: the shrub. And it has nothing to do with here the stuff that makes your face silky smooth. No, a shrub is a cocktail based on vinegar, sparkling water, and fresh ingredients like mint, raspberry, lemon, or basil. And it is the new cocktail trend of this summer. The trend was set by Tess Posthumus, the world's best female bartender in collaboration with Oil & Vinegar , the olive oil and vinegar expert of the Netherlands. You’ll get the recipes from me, the rest you have to do yourself. Cheers!1. Tropical Paradise

We can't make them more summery: this cocktail of coconut water, triple sec, passion fruit vinegar, vodka, and pineapple syrup must not be missing on a sultry summer evening.

45 ml vodka.

Ingredients

  • 45 ml coconut water
  • 10 ml triple sec
  • 20 ml passion fruit vinegar
  • 5 ml pineapple syrup
  • Mix all the ingredients, except for the orange, in a (cocktail) shaker filled with ice cubes. Take a martini glass and strain the cocktail into the glass. Finally, garnish with an orange peel and possibly an edible flower.
  • Orange peel
  • Ice cubes

Preparation

2. Virgin Strawberry.

The sweet-fruity taste of strawberry vinegar* makes this shrub a delicious non-alcoholic thirst quencher.

45 ml sparkling water.

Ingredients

  • 10 ml strawberry vinegar
  • Splash of agave syrup or sugar syrup
  • 15 leaves of fresh basil
  • Basil sprig
  • Strawberry
  • Crushed ice
  • Put the basil leaves in a long drink glass and mix them with agave/sugar syrup and strawberry vinegar. Then fill the glass with crushed ice and add the sparkling water. Stir briefly and garnish with a strawberry and a sprig of basil.

Preparation

3. The Mrs. Miller.

This shrub is a twist on the classic gin and tonic: the powerful taste of gin with the mildly sweet flavor of elderflower-apple-lime vinegar, refined with tonic, mint leaves, and lime.

45 ml gin.

Ingredients

  • 20 ml elderflower-apple-lime vinegar
  • Splash of agave or sugar syrup (optional)
  • 45 ml tonic
  • 6 fresh mint leaves
  • Slice of lime
  • Shake the gin, vinegar, and agave/sugar syrup together. Take a martini glass and strain the cocktail through a fine sieve into the glass. Then pour in the tonic and garnish with fresh mint and a lime slice.
