This way you can stay in the holiday mood a little longer
Just one more week of grinding and then I'll jump on the plane like lightning for the necessary dose of vitamin D. No work emails and deadlines, phone on airplane mode (okay, occasionally an Insta update) and the laptop stays closed. Vacation as vacation should be. And actually, I don't want to think about it yet, but I still want to talk to you about the situation after your vacation. The chance is quite big that you are already craving your next trip. Did you know that after a vacation you are at a higher risk of burnout?
Dutch professor of work psychology Arno Zijderveld recently warned that one in seven employees collapses after the summer vacation. Especially people who start a vacation burned out are in trouble. And that's not so strange. Rest is not the remedy when you go on vacation. Of course, you clear your head on that beach chair and ensure that your body recovers, but problems at work or the reason why you were so stressed do not disappear when you sneak away for a bit. On the contrary; the contrast between that time-out and the stress you roll back into can even be extra confronting. With these tips, you ensure that you hold on to your vacation feeling a little longer and do not crave sun, sea, and peace.
1. Postpone your workweek
Why should your first workday be on a Monday? Push your vacation a few days and start your workweek somewhere in the middle of the week. Start your day a bit later by first having a coffee with a friend or your sister. By sharing some vacation stories, you stay nicely in your vacation mode and go back to work with good spirits. And the weekend will be around the corner in no time.
2. Hold meetings outside or in the open air
Plan meetings or brainstorming sessions especially outside. Working in a nice café or in the open air when the weather is good is inspiring and gives a sense of freedom.
3. Playlist
Those sunny tunes that you and your loved one played endlessly during your trip through the Tuscan fields also work wonderfully in the office, in the car, and during your workout.
4. No email stress
Because if you plop down behind your laptop on day one with that brown fresh face, there is that overflowing inbox that you want to tackle as quickly as possible. And there you go wrong immediately. Make a list of priorities and ensure an overview that way. Make sure to tackle important emails first and leave less important things for later. Work on those priorities at times when you are focused, such as early in the morning.
5. Share your vacation stories
Plan a cozy dinner with family or friends and share stories, photos, and videos from your trip. Cook that delicious pasta or that fragrant Indian curry that you enjoyed so much during your trip and you will see that you mentally return to your journey.
6. Reward yourself
Plan your next vacation, buy that nice bag, book a weekend away in your own country, or reward yourself with a day at the spa. Make sure you have something to look forward to. It works. Really.
