The shoe with print
My fashion goal is to occasionally pull people, myself included, a bit out of their comfort zone. Buy some yellow shoes. Or metallic loafers. You will be inundated with compliments. Because apparently more people dare to show their courage in their shoe choices, Omoda is this season overflowing with variants of printed shoes. And boots of course. I called Omoda's stylist Iris Gravemaker to discuss the how, what, where, and why.
The print trend, tell me.
“It all comes from Gucci, of course. And Dolce & Gabbana. The eclectic, floral style has blown over from Italy to the Netherlands. We see a lot of shoes and boots with prints, some more striking than others. Something for everyone, in short.”
There will surely be people who want some styling tips from you regarding this trend.
“A shoe with a print can be styled in many ways, but I think many people feel safest when they keep their outfit calm and use these shoes as a statement piece. A dark, plain suit, for example, with a floral pump underneath. Or a black dress under which you wear the over-the-knee boot with print. If you're a real daredevil, you can also wear one of these shoes very well under a leopard print pant. Or under a silver-gray one. With a blouse on top that has a different floral print. It can all work, it just depends on what you feel comfortable with. It looks good under jeans anyway.”
Who rocks this trend?
“Most people choose the safer route, but Danie Bles and Lizzy van der Ligt are stars at combining many different prints and still making it a whole. It's very fun to look at their photos for inspiration to pick out what fits your taste and style. Mix and match to the max.”
