WHAT TO DO THIS WEEKEND
By Theo Bakana
Are you guys already brooding by any chance? I don't really know what it means, but I notice that those temperatures of 15 plus do something to me. Around me, I see it too; terraces are starting to fill up (until about eight o'clock, because then it cools down again), the first spring purchases are being made and very cautiously the first bare arms and legs are making their entrance. Those endless summer evenings, with rosé, ice cubes, and a double tongue are coming back, guys, and I can't wait. But first: weekend. What are you going to do?
Amsterdam Wine Festival
Speaking of rosé: you can drink a lot of it this weekend. Or better said: taste. The Westergasterrein has been transformed into wine paradise. Two weeks ago, coffee lovers could still go there, but now it's time for wine. Much more my thing. From Friday to Sunday, you can taste all the wines from the southern hemisphere (well, not all, you have to be able to do that). Furthermore, you can attend workshops, experience which dishes pair best with which wine, and sway to the music of Sublime FM. If that isn't a sublime day (you get it, right)…
MACA discount
I think I'm going to make a lot of you very happy with this. There is a MACA discount.
‘A what?’ I hear you thinking? MEGA discount on M.A.C. Cosmetics. This whole weekend, you can stock up on all your concealers, eyebrow brushes, and lip liners for 20% discount at the Bijenkorf. Yes, you read that right. Don't faint, get yourself together and go, hurry, to the store. Or take a peek online. The promotion is valid until Sunday, then I'll see you on Monday looking ‘apparently’ fresh and fruity.
The endless summer evenings
are coming back
What the fork?!?
Now that the sun is showing its best side again – or actually showing itself at all or at least trying its best – we see the food festivals already in the starting blocks. My Hague heart goes out to the next edition, which takes place on the pier of Scheveningen. There, the food trucks are rumbling, you can take a dive in the North Sea, top it off with a ride on the Ferris wheel, and the real daredevil jumps off the pier with a bungee cord. Which option are you going for?
Garage sale
This is also for the daredevils, as this will require quite a bit of elbow work. On Saturday morning, you can go to the Undercurrent for the garage sale of FreshCotton. Feel blessed that I'm sharing this with you, because that means even more competition for one of the coolest Amsterdam clothing brands. If you come, let me know, then we can discuss the best tactics in advance.
GHB
On Sunday, we wrap up with GHB and before you start thinking crazy things about me, that stands for Green Healthy Brunch, something very different from what you thought, huh, sneaky ones? At I can't remember the last time I walked into a snack bar. Okay, only for a pack of gum. Unless it's SNCKBR: one of the healthiest snack bars in Amsterdam. You can order healthy frikadel (I still need to try this), spelt pita bread, and low-fat pizza. On weekends, it's open until 3:00 AM. The interior looks nothing like a normal snack bar with fluorescent lights, but rather like a super cool lunchroom. Great for a small bite before you head to the movies or a birthday party, for example. in Amsterdam, you can go all day long, you heard it right: the whole day for a delicious and healthy brunch. No better remedy for a hangover, especially not when there are mimosas and a DJ involved. Reservations are handy.
That was it for this week. If you're looking for me to send weekend tips, I'm outside. So email me at theo@amayzine.com. Have a nice weekend for now and will I see you next week?
In a while, crocodile.
