WHAT TO DO THIS WEEKEND

By Theo

Yeah, while you are reading this, I am jumping for joy, cuddling with lambs, and feeling the blades of grass between my toes. Daisies are fluttering around me and the homemade lemonade is fresh, cold, and in high demand. Not entirely true of course, but that’s what happens in my head. Those first rays of sunshine awaken something in me. Could that be spring fever? I think so and I hope they stay, and I especially hope that the sun continues to make its presence known. Especially this weekend. Come on, let’s go outside.

Caffeine overdose

You can grab a delicious fresh cup (or two, or three) this weekend at the Westergasterrein. There, the Amsterdam Coffee Festival. is taking place. Besides a delightful spring cup, you will find everything that breathes caffeine. Which coffee pairs best with which dish, for example? Yes, coffee during dinner is simply possible. Furthermore, there are Latte Art Competitions, the Dutch Tea Championship, and I think I’ll be counting coffee beans at the Espresso Martini Party.

From caffeine to cocktails

Once you’ve ticked off all the coffee scenes, you can seamlessly move on to the cocktail menu of the Amsterdam Cocktail Week. A total of 50 different bars have joined in, so you need to come from a good home and have a great love for time management to visit all fifty. But hey, where there’s a will, there’s a way, my dear grandma always said. She didn’t actually say that, but you get what I mean. By the way, I’m going to call her to see if she’s interested in a bloody mary workshop.

From cocktails to a festive aftertaste

Do you prefer wine over a cocktail? No worries, there’s room for that this weekend too. In De Duif, a church on the Prinsengracht, you can greatly enrich yourself this weekend. In terms of wine, that is. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday you can enjoy the Bacchus Wine Festival , tasting wine, eating, dancing, and tasting wine again. I don’t think you need more info than that.

Run it all out

Perhaps you’re in need of a balance day after all that caffeine and alcohol. That could very well be, no pressure, but let’s say you feel like sweating a bit, then head to the Hofstad on Sunday. The City Pier City (CPC) is being held for the 43rd time. As a true Hague resident, I will appear at the start and hopefully also reach the finish. The weather forecasts are exciting and every year it’s a big deal of sporty fun. Yes, that exists. Tickets are still available, especially via TicketSwap and Facebook. So go after them or come cheer, it’s really much more fun than you think.

The big reveal

As you know, there are quite a few WIDM fans here in the editorial office. Especially Kiek has been awake for weeks wondering who has been throwing a spanner in the works for the candidates unseen. On Saturday, she will finally be relieved of her suffering. And you can be there. The spots are already taken, but the Vondelpark is large. That’s where the reveal will take place. So jot it down in your mole notebook and make sure you’re at the front, because then you can be the first to make it clear to the Mole in a ‘nuanced‘ way what you think of him/her.

Keep going

You probably haven’t missed it, but last week it was International Women's Day. To celebrate women, give your weekend a bit more depth, create unity, and support each other as women, Women’s March Netherlands is organizing a walk this Saturday in various locations across the country. This weekend you can show in Amsterdam, Nijmegen, and Groningen ‘who run the world’.

Celebrate the sun rays, the rising temperatures, and each other. Spring is coming, guys, I can feel it. Have a nice weekend for now and send your tips to: theo@amayzine.com.

I’m outside, the sun is calling.
