WHAT TO DO THIS WEEKEND
By Theo Bakana
Yes, you there. Are you enjoying that evening sun? Or have you just left the terrace? Camping chairs put away, blankets folded up again, last sip of wine just downed because it’s getting a bit chilly? Either way, it’s back: the evening sun. The days are getting longer, the clock has been set back an hour and you have the weekend. If we are to believe the reports, it’s going to be one for the books. Or at least, ‘blissful spring weather’ will be coming our way. And no, those aren’t my words, so don’t shoot me if I’m wrong, but I’m just going to assume that. Still no idea what you can do with that lovely weather? Well, how about this…
Funky fiestas
First of all, it’s essential that you leave the home base. Because let’s be honest: sitting inside all day..? Wonderful in 80 percent of the cases, but on those few Sundays that we get assigned each year, it’s nice to spend them outside. Unless you already have a really nice outdoor space, of course. Then you can make for example, very tasty spelt pizzas for the barbecue. But for me, the sun really means heading towards the coast. And there, the beach parties are in full swing again. You can go to Bloomingdale for Favela on the Beach. In Bloemendaal, Tsepo will take you to tropical heights and in The Hague, Valerio Strandtent 14. The Haagsche Tailors are warming up, so I’ve already started stretching. The feet can come off the floor.
For me, the sun also really means heading towards the coast. And there, the beach parties are in full swing again.
Nice Ceuvelen
Want to go outside, but can those feet just stay on the floor or in the air in horizontal mode? Check here the most beautiful beach tents where you can do that. Another lovely spot where you can do that is at De Ceuvel in Amsterdam, a kind of oasis in the busy city that also generates its own biogas and serves food that is not only good for you but also for the planet. So you’re also being very green on your day off. This coming Sunday, you can also go there for a sustainability workshop, and various young creatives will showcase their photography, illustrations, and films exhibit. Maybe a bit less funky than above, but somewhere also nice, a step back.
Leave your mark
If you’re done chewing and have an hour free, definitely stop by Amstelpark. This weekend, the Pure Market is being organized there. You can immediately stock up on all your groceries for the whole week, as there are more than 70 different stalls where you can buy artisanal snacks, drinks, and other products. If you want to high-five Simone this weekend, then you know where to be.
Make your mark
After the pure market, you can hop, straight to the Domstad. This weekend, the Swan Market. is taking place there. Since you’ve already got your groceries (from the Pure Market, of course), you can enjoy browsing through clothes, artworks, home decor, and jewelry. Or you can take a spin on the carousel, sway a bit to the disco set of one of the DJs, or grab a stick from one of the food trucks. And all that in that lovely weather. Look, are you coming too?
Are you all going out for a nice time? And do you have a good tip on where you can soak up the sun? You can always email theo@amayzine.com. For now, have a lot of fun and I’ll see you next week.
Hasta luego.
