Love & Sex

Why being in love

is good for you

And suddenly you are it: in love. Head over heels, rose-colored glasses, everything. My father used to say whenever it was obvious that someone with a few extra pounds was in love because you spontaneously eat more to feed all those butterflies. I was young, you know, and of course believed everything my parents told me.

Being in love is nice, but also intensely frightening because it can also be the case that it is not mutual. Fortunately, we have our own love guru Marion Pauw with her survival guide for heartbreak. But if you’re lucky, and especially now because I have the feeling that spring does something to our hormones, then you are crazy in love. And that’s a good thing, because it is healthy. Being in love makes your body happy.

  1. Love keeps you young. It keeps your skin soft and smooth. Some people even say it helps against wrinkles, but whether I completely agree with that I don’t know, because you laugh more (I hope). At least those wrinkles come from something good.
  2. A lot of kissing is good for your lips. It gives them more color through good blood circulation.
  3. It lowers your blood pressure.
  4. Are you suffering from a lot of stress? A lot of sex, which you definitely have at the beginning of a relationship, calms you down. It makes you less impatient and irritable.
  5. There are people who claim that your breasts will grow from it. I’m still waiting...
  6. Just a little about all that sex you have? Free workout! And even better: one where you, unless you do very crazy things, don’t have any muscle pain afterwards.
  7. Your hair is healthier, it shines more – and all this because you are happier.
  8. Being in love is good for your self-confidence and self-assurance.
  9. Okay, and then there are also people who claim that you actually snack less, which means you don’t suddenly gain extra pounds.
  10. When you have sex, you sweat. Unless you are always team starfish (boring). And that sweat helps your body to remove potential harmful toxins.
  11. Research from the University of Iowa has indicated that patients with ovarian cancer who are happy in love have stronger white blood cells that also kill cancer cells.
  12. Even holding hands with your loved one seems to be good for reducing pain. Love apparently activates the part of your brain responsible for pain relief.

Oh man, what I wouldn’t do to be in love.
