WHY THIS IS THE WATCH OF THE MOMENT

7 compelling reasons

There comes a moment in your life when you deserve a real watch. And I mean a real watch. A statement watch. Because you’ve had a child, started a new job, turned thirty, or because you find a wedding ring just okay and prefer to give each other a watch instead. Those kinds of things. Because you are a special person, you also want a special watch and preferably something that not everyone has yet. Enter: the Da Vinci from IWC.

I got to wear this watch for a photo moment. By accident. Well, sort of by accident… It happened to still be on my wrist when I went to Paris the next day. The Da Vinci was the perfect accessory for Fashion Week. When I popped into the IWC boutique, the saleswoman almost fell over backwards. How I got it. I must be someone special.

Now I’m going to tell you in seven steps why this is such an incredibly beautiful watch and why a little woman deserves it.

1. The outside

Just look at that watch. How stunning. Subtle, chic, and beautiful. That is of course the most important thing. But there’s more.

2. To Leonardo da Vinci

It’s called the Da Vinci. And not without reason. Named after Leonardo da Vinci, of course, the artist who intertwined the beauty of art and science.

3. This is something only you know

This detail is a selling point for me. On the inside of the case, the part that rests on your wrist, is the Flower of Life engraved. This symbol of overlapping circles has been used for over 6000 years in various cultures. It is seen as the marriage between creativity, technology, and beauty. How perfectly that fits this watch.

4. Haute horlogerie

Because we haven’t talked about the technology yet. This watch has a ‘perpetual calendar’. That means it can accurately display the date for 500 years into the future every day. And it also takes leap years into account. Try to think about that as a techie. Kurt Klaus managed to do that, which propelled the IWC brand to the highest echelons of haute horlogerie. Does that man have a vision? I hope so.

5. The most beautiful moon

Another remarkable feat of technological cleverness. Do you see that beautiful little moon? With that, you can see the phase of the moon. That’s also incredibly clever, as the moon phase has a different rhythm than the days. A new moon appears after exactly 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes, and 29 seconds. Then a new moon begins. This watch displays not only the months but also the moon phases. That’s clever and stunning.

6. For women

Women were the first to wear a wristwatch. Sure, there were some people ‘in the field’ like pilots and military personnel who needed a wristwatch, but women swore off pocket watches back in the day (they had no place for them in their clothing) and opted for the wristwatch. If it was such a beautiful specimen as this IWC, they even wore it over their cuff. I think I’ll start doing that from now on.

7. The tradition

IWC makes watches for women and men. How beautiful is it to wear a timepiece on your wrist that is part of 150 years of craftsmanship?
