Love & Sex

Women using this contraceptive method have sex most often on average

Whether you lie like a starfish every night before the light is properly off or whether you are already yearning for your man with your legs in the split; it can all have to do with which contraceptive method you use.
One contraceptive method causes you to have more desire for sex than another. It all has to do with those good old hormones that are raging through everyone's body. When a woman produces a little less estrogen, she is less likely to want to get down to it. And this is particularly influenced by the pill. You can experience mood swings that simply put you out of the mood for sex. But there are also studies indicating that your libido really decreases when you take the pill. For instance, 1 in 100 women has less desire for a sexual encounter when they are on the pill. Not to mention pskin problems or gaining a few extra pounds.
Normally, you have the most desire for physical activity around your ovulation. That makes sense, as you are fertile then. Quite handy, right, when we as humans want to reproduce. But if you are a woman who always takes the pill, you have a lower ‘peak’ around those fertile days. Everything becomes a bit flattened, and you generally have less desire for a penis throughout your entire cycle. And don't be misled by what those pill makers say. That decreased desire for a romp probably occurs 10 to 15 times more often than a package insert would have you believe. The tricky part is that you often start taking the pill quite young, around the age of 16. Your sex life is not optimal then – whether you want to believe it or not. Because you don't know any better, in terms of libido and desire, you also don't know that it can be different. More often than you are used to in the years that follow. And that's quite unfortunate. For your relationship. And for yourself.
So what is a good contraceptive method, purely looking at your sex life? Just think of the copper IUD. Zero hormones that end up in your body: that can only be beneficial for the game of love.
It's not surprising then that in recent years more and more girls and women are switching to a IUD or other contraceptive method than the pill. Well, you can always give it a try, right? Who knows, without that little pill, a world full of daily crackling fireworks in bed might open up for you. You never know… And men, thank us later.
