Summer In The City
with Vivian Hoorn
Our Vivian is the cool girl of Amsterdam. I think. She not only looks amazing in photos, she takes them just as easily. And now that Viv is back in the country – because she is often at those ridiculously beautiful destinations – we had to ask her about her summer.
Viv, it's summer…
What's in your glass?
“Water with lime and ice or a healthy juice. And if I’m feeling really adventurous, a wine.”
Where do you settle when the temperature rises above twenty?
“In the Netherlands? Then I go to my parents in the south of the country, nice to sail with the boat.”
Your secret favorite spot to absorb extra, EXTRA hours of sun? Yes, we want your secret terrace.
“Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, that’s my all-time favorite spot by the water. And behind the Olympic Stadium, you can also lie on a wooden platform and swim. Not so sexy, but very relaxing.”
And what’s on your plate?
“A Caesar salad… Without egg, anchovies, chicken, and cheese. Haha.”
Which destination is on your ticket?
“London, Ibiza, Barcelona, and Positano. And I still want to go to Paris and Capri, but Amsterdam is of course also nice.”
The three ingredients you need for the perfect holiday?
“The boyfriend, food, and more fooooood.”
What book are you reading this summer?
“That’s always different.”
And what’s coming out of your speakers?
“Khalid.”
Are you the tennis racket type or do your toes not come out of the sand?
“I always lie under a parasol or in the shade. I don’t bake anymore, but I definitely don’t play tennis either.”
Your tip if there’s a long flight ahead?
“Sleeping pills and a face mask. Also make sure you bring your own food on the plane, because that’s terrible. Unless you check low-fat or vegetarian, then you occasionally have something normal.”
How does your ideal summer day go?
“Just hanging out with the man.”
And what do you immediately grab from the closet to wear when it’s finally warm?
“Swirly dresses.”
Where did you go on vacation as a child?
“We once sailed along the Greek coast with a catamaran. That’s still one of the best vacations ever.”
Are you a luxury type or do you go back to basics in a tent and be green by the campfire?
“Both. I love to dress up and do luxury in my most overdressed way. But five days back to basics, sleeping in the same clothes and with dirty feet in a hut, has its charms too.”
What do you do in the summer that would never occur to you in the winter?
“Cycling.”
Are you team soft serve or team water ice?
“Ice pops for life!”
And a juicy story about a holiday romance?
“In Cape Town, I had some dates with a model from Milan. He was gorgeous, but always repeated the last word of the sentence. So you get: ‘You look so pretty, so pretty. The food is delicious, delicious.’ So annoying. And I can’t really communicate with men in another language, I find that a bit embarrassing or something.”
