9 cool themes for a costume party

Thanks to the epic Magnum party (okay, and countless episodes of Gossip Girl) I'm in the mood to dress up. Themed parties only for the elite? Laaaater. Also in the mood to organize the party of the year that will be etched in your friends' memories forever? Dress up, babe. Here are some ideas.

Roaring 20’s

Think The Great Gatsby style. Chic and fancy, sipping champagne from vintage glasses while going all out with feathers, boas, fringes, sequins, pearls, and gloves. Guaranteed success.

Arabian nights

Or get inspired by Morocco for your next themed party. Think: belly dancers, traditional Moroccan mint tea (uh, cocktails, obviously), lanterns, glitter, gold, and exotic fabrics. Please leave your flying carpet at home.

DIY spa party

A slightly smaller group? Invite your girls over for a spa party at home. Arrange for a manicurist (yes, that seems to be a word and it's cheaper than you think) and come up with all sorts of fun do-it-yourself masks for the guests. Simone came up with a few really cool ones.

Picnic dinner party

Do you have a garden? Good. Why have a formal dinner when you can have a picnic outside? Lay a picnic blanket in the garden, buy large beautiful round boards and go wild with sausages and cheeses. Of course, you drink the wine from these glasses.

The ugly party

Only recommended with close friends to avoid embarrassment (not sure if that's a word by the way). Think: the nerd party. The high-water pants. The big glasses. Bet you'll cry from laughing during the photos?

Tropical jungle bash

Palm leaves, balloons shaped like pineapples (yes, they exist!) for decoration and of course a nice floral dress on your body. On the table, a tropical fruit salad. Gather as many plants in your house as you can collect. Chiquita banana!

Go for the gold

Gold food, golden drinks, gold decor; well, you get it.

Come as you were

The cutest idea ever. Ask your guests to come as they looked when they were in high school. Dig up those old photos and who knows, there might still be something in your closet that you can use. And uh, yes, that blue eyeshadow too.

Oh, Harvey

Think: a lawyer dress-up party à la Suits. Whether you go as Bruno (Louis Litt's cat) or Donna (red wig + petticoat); anything goes. Extra bonus points for anyone who draws Harvey's mole on their face or can match Rachel Zane's beauty.

But first: tomorrow our own Amayzine team outing with the dress code Sailor Chic. Aye aye, captain!
