Date tips for the new year
New year, new strategy in love. We have the ‘Peak Day‘ behind us now, so I assume that the real diehard online daters have snagged someone to do something fun with. And with that ‘something fun’, I’m more than happy to help you out, because a little creativity in your date can’t hurt. Always just doing drinks and going to the movies can get boring too. In 2018, we’re taking a different approach. These are the things you’re going to do with your date.
Formula 1 course
You really have to like your date to do this, because it’s just a bit pricier than a few drinks at your local pub. Anyway, always wanted to race in a fancy race car? Go take a course together at the circuit in Zandvoort, for example. And if you find it a bit too scary on a real circuit, no worries, you can also just go karting there.
Curling
When I asked out loud in the editorial office if anyone had any fun ideas, May jokingly shouted ‘curling’, but seriously guys, I think this is actually hilarious to do on your date. Do you live in Amsterdam? Go with your date to Floor 17. You can actually go curling on the roof until January 28. Yes, it may look pretty boring on TV, but honestly, secretly you’ve always wanted to try it, right?
Browse in a bookstore
For the readers among us: as part of your date (because you’re not going to spend hours here), you’re going to visit a bookstore. In Amsterdam, you have the American Book Center at the Spui, opposite the Athenaeum Bookstore, and there’s also Mendo in the 9 Streets. I personally love wandering through there. Then head towards Van Stapele in the Heisteeg for the best cookies you’ll ever eat in your life (do keep in mind a gigantic long line of tourists) and for a nice cup of coffee, make a quick stop at the Denham concept store at the corner of Runstraat and Prinsengracht. A nice afternoon like this with your date, don’t you think?
Join a pub quiz together
Great idea from my FavorFlav colleague Emma, who recently participated in a Friends pub quiz, but of course, there are various types you can sign up for. Personally, I’d prefer something music-related; I think I could score pretty well. In short, a lovely competitive evening with your date.
Bar hopping
Or just hopping from one café to another and having drinks. Sounds fun to me.
Dinner tour
You can also approach that bar hopping just a bit differently (tip from Simone): do a sort of dinner tour. You have an appetizer at one place, a main course somewhere else, and for your dessert, you look for another restaurant. Different environments also provide the right amount of excitement.
Stargazing in a planetarium
In other words: my dream date. Delightfully cliché, I love it.
Happy dating!
