Twenty-eight. No, actually thirty. Or maybe thirty-six? The numbers were ping-ponging over the table between the crackers and salad. At what age do/did we find ourselves the most beautiful, was the question. Difficult, difficult.

I got a bit nervous, because maybe I had missed it without realizing it. That would really suck, right? And that's an understatement. When I hit eighteen, I was exceptionally well-preserved, almost pimple-free (except for one stowaway per month), wrinkle-free and I felt none of that at all. So, insecure. Late twenties went pretty well, but the little fat around the waist was sticking a bit too enthusiastically. And now, now I'm thirty-one, I have a wrinkle here and there and I think I'm doing okay, I believe. But do I find myself at my best? No clue.

That calls for thorough research. The Brits showed in 2015 that you are at your best around 31 years old, if you mix the opinions of men and women. If you ask the woman, you get 29 years or 34, the Brits contradict themselves a bit in the studies here. If you only let men speak, then we can pack it up (I can), because then you end up at twenty. Even if you take the man's preference towards 50 into account, yes. Finnish men prefer older, by the way, the mid-twenty is popular there. Okay, I think I'll bet on between 31 and 34 and you can guess three times how old I am.

One thing is clear or actually three: it’s not just about a pretty exterior. It is important, 67 percent thinks, but without self-confidence you can pack it up, says 70 percent. For 47 percent, a sense of style is also a point of attention. And, also striking, 63 percent believes that beauty comes with age. How men reconcile this with those twenty-somethings, I don't know exactly.

In short: between your roughly twenties and thirty-four you are safe. And once that's over, you can look forward to your thirty-ninth, because then you supposedly really seem to be happy.
