An ideal night out

relaxing and drinking

I'm not really into sports as such. Sweating, other people around me looking at me sweating with the sole purpose of lying in a plank for four minutes.

And whether I go six times a week or once every six months: it doesn't make a damn bit of difference for my figure. Really not. I might lose about a half a kilo , but well, no one notices that in those warm turtlenecks we wear for about eight months a year in the Netherlands. But now the tide has turned. Because something new has been invented, and it's something that makes us instantly mindful. And namasté. And drunk.

Because: there is such a thing as doing yoga with a drink. It’s all happening now in New York, this so-called drunk yoga, and then you know: we’ll see that back in Amsterdam soon too. What do you do in such a class? Drink wine. On a yoga mat, that’s for sure. The creator has an excellent reason for it: being healthy is, according to her, mainly about being happy. And we become that from a good conversation, a good glass of wine, and a good moment of rest. All to be found during that good old ‘drunk yoga’. The combination of social relaxation and doing a bit of stretching on a mat – that is, according to the supporters, the key to success. The idea behind it is also that people are less likely to cancel a class, because after a workday they don’t feel like a bootcamp in the park, but do feel like a glass of vino, a moment for yourself and your friends, all lying on a mat in a room full of incense and candles. Look, I’d love to bike there even in minus 15 degrees.

I have faith in life again. Who knows, I might finally lose that whole kilo. Who knows.
