Healthy living is becoming increasingly expensive

Just when your good intention to live healthier is, we hear that healthy food is only getting more expensive. In the past ten years, the price of food items labeled as healthy by the Nutrition Center has risen by 22 percent, according to figures from CBS. Meanwhile, the price of unhealthy products only increased by 1.3 percent. Chocolate bars, tubs of whipped cream, and bags of sugar even became cheaper.

Does this mean you might as well fill your plate again tonight with fries and applesauce? Can the box oatmeal make way for super sweet granola again? Unfortunately, friend, that's a poor excuse. Healthy intentions don't have to be expensive intentions at all. That bikini body is even cheaper than you expected. Note:

Go for vegetarian more often

Meat is cheaper than ever, but it is still a relatively expensive product compared to vegetables. If you choose very cheap meat, you choose an unhealthy system and limit your own health. It's better to go for a good (and thus unfortunately more expensive) piece of meat once a week and more often for a vegetarian option. Just like in the past, when meat was either a flavor enhancer or eaten during special occasions.

Avoid the ‘healthy sticker’

There are many products in the supermarket that are more expensive because they have a so-called ‘healthy’ sticker on them. Many of those products are not marketed to be healthy at all, but mainly to make a profit. Go for fresh and whole instead of 0.1 percent and with extra bifidus.

From the tap

Are you paying a fortune for expensive juices and smoothies? Realize that all these products do not make you healthier, but they do cost you a lot of money. Tap a glass of water more often and make your juice yourself. That smoothie is really not rocket science, and a net of oranges, a bunch of bananas, and a carton of almond milk cost about the same as one cup from that trendy juice bar on the corner.

Real food

Choose your real and honest food, and you will naturally notice that you feel less hungry. Unprocessed, natural products are often more nutritious by nature, contain a lot more fiber, and therefore give your body more energy. Swap that club sandwich made of white bread for a brown whole grain spelt with hummus and garden cress, and add some broccoli florets to your sandwich instead of grabbing that handful of chips.

More protein

Legumes are an incredibly good source of protein. They are healthy, nutritious, and especially filling. So throw a few spoons of lentils into your salad more often and fill your plate with beans in the evening. You will see that you won't miss that slice of bread at lunch and eat less of your pasta in the evening than you normally do.

No unhealthy snacks

Once you're finally in that healthy flow, you'll see that over time you save money on chocolate bars at the gas station or that bag of chips from the vending machine.

Superfood

Thank goodness it seems that the superfood hype. is coming to an end. Because let's be honest: all those chia seeds, quinoa flour, and matcha powder are nice and all, but such an acai bowl on Sunday morning is really not going to suddenly make you shine with health.
