Here you can buy the tastiest macarons in the Netherlands

It is now widely known that I have a huge weakness for desserts. I am the kind of person who checks the dessert menu first in a restaurant to match the rest of the menu accordingly. If I really have to choose and you put a knife to my throat, then my favorite sweet item is the macaron: such a crispy, sweet cookie with a soft filling in the most delicious flavors. My favorite macarons for years have been those from Ladurée. It is no surprise that my wedding cake was a macaron tower from this brand (what luck that our wedding venue was near Florence, where Ladurée is also located). Whether it's the branding or the quality of the cookies; for a box of these macarons, I would literally drive back and forth to the nearest store in Antwerp. Since such a trip eventually adds up, I started looking for the best Dutch variants and I have now gathered the top addresses across the country. I can hardly say it, but some variants even surpass the taste of my ultimate French favorite. It would of course be egocentric not to share these addresses with you.

  • My ultimate favorite in Amsterdam is Patisserie Tout. The cookie has the perfect composition and the filling is extremely flavorful and creamy. The salted caramel you must try.
  • As a child, I already went to Jarreau in The Hague and their beautiful cakes are almost little works of art. Good thing they didn't sell macarons back then, otherwise I would have been round as a barrel. A bit smaller in size, but thus the perfect ‘cookie’ for tea.
  • At Bread & Delicious in Maastricht, you will find the best macarons from the south. The earl grey flavor really tastes like a cup of tea, delicious!
  • Smaakaron in Groningen is known for their delicious macarons. The assortment is gigantic and the flavor combinations are super surprising like white chocolate/mango/lime.
  • When I first walked into Trick ‘n Treats in Rotterdam, I went a bit crazy: all the macarons are presented by color and it is impossible to just taste one. The rose flavor comes extremely close to my favorite Ladurée variant and is – I can hardly say it – maybe even tastier.
