I got it, you know!

I figured it out!

After Jan Smit for Pearl (I totally get it, pick a famous figure, a catchy melody and people remember your brand) and Frans Bauer for Lidl, yet again a singer has been recruited for a commercial job. René Froger shows off his range when he sings along to the tune of EyeLove opticians. For everyone born in the early seventies (sounds a lot better than people over forty): I had a huge SoundmixShow experience with it. Do you remember? That at the end they started singing Reach Out and Touch and all the contestants were rolling over each other lip-syncing.

Well, René did that too. Maybe logical, because the man can sing, but still. It felt a bit awkward. Just like the joke with the Eyelove employee who says that with these glasses he can see much better at a distance. She gets treated to a “Well, up close too, you know!” and a meaningful wink, because René, he sees the ladies, you know.

The commercial did its job because it kept me intrigued. I didn’t understand the match. So I watched it again for the 75th time. And now I get it. René is there for the multi-focal glasses. Multi-focal. Sounds like. Vocal. Get it?

Funny, right?

But hey, the commercial worked, because it does something to people and I’ve nicely written a piece about it for free.
