If you don't understand a thing about Who is the Mole?...
(A brief explanation + dictionary)
Pfff. Everyone around you is blabbering about conspiracies, suspicions, and Mole nonsense, and you have no idea what it's all about because you're not following it at all. Not? Okay. In that case, there's work to be done, friend. Time for a little Who is the Mole? guide in simple terms. At least you'll know what it's generally about.
The Mole
Starting with the basics. Every year, 10 famous Dutch people participate in Who is the Mole? and one person is secretly appointed as the ‘Mole.’ This person has the task throughout all episodes to make the candidates lose as much money as possible. The candidates can earn that money by completing a number of tasks each episode.
Mole fans
The people who faithfully follow Who is the Mole? call themselves mole fans. The fan club, that is. ‘We’ mole fans are quite a large group. Millions, even. I would say: join the dark side.
Alliance
An alliance between two participants in the show is also called an ‘alliance.’ Some candidates are a bit sneaky and secretly have multiple alliances where they pass information to another.
I'm on (person X)...
No, no, it has nothing to do with sitting on someone's head. You suspect that person the most as the Mole. So you're on Stine. Or Jan. Or Olcay.
Tunnel vision
The biggest handicap during the game. If you suspect someone so much that you can no longer think normally, live with blinders on, and EVERYTHING you see suddenly seems to point to ‘your’ Mole.
Time for the test
At the end of each episode, the candidates must pass a test. At that moment, you hear presenter Art Rooijakkers say: time for the test. Twenty questions about the identity and actions of the Mole. The one who knows the least is out of the game. Except for the Mole. That one never has to go home.
Jokers
Every year, jokers are secretly hidden during tasks. A kind of wooden, round discs. As a candidate, you can use one (or more) jokers during the test. For every joker you use, 1 answer during the test is automatically approved. So it's crucial for candidates to grab as many jokers as possible.
Exemption
This round, green disc is pretty much the orgasm of every WIDM candidate. If you use an exemption, you automatically move on to the next round.
Black exemption
With a black exemption, you as a candidate (or Mole) have extreme power, because if you use it during the test, all exemptions and jokers used in that episode become void.
Execution
Are you out? Then you are executed in front of all the candidates with a shot to the neck. Just kidding. The execution means that Art is sitting in front of you with a laptop on which you see a green (passed) or red (not passed) screen.
Okay, and if all those letters are dizzying and you still don't understand a thing: check this super simple video again. For the real dummies (sorry). And, will I see you soon on the other side? On the dark side? Great. I'll crawl underground again.
