Do you love Scandinavian design?
Then I have the best news
You have three geographical areas that really determine the taste. Of course, there are the Italians. Over the top is their middle name. Strass and glitter are delivered in large containers at the ports of Genoa and Naples because Italians love bling. And color. And let's not forget the worship of logos. Soon there will be a portrait of Allessandro Michele, the head designer of Gucci, in the little chapels along the B-roads. Sto scherzando, or: I'm joking, but still. Fashion must be seen in Italy.
Then you have the French. They inhabit exactly the other side of the spectrum. Nothing should radiate even a hint of ‘effort’. But in the meantime, they have certainly worked up a sweat to achieve that perfect look. The French say: “Fashion shouts, style whispers.” Although it sometimes seems like they have to push a fist in their mouth to avoid screaming how vintage/unique/one of a million and unparalleled their items are.
And then there are the Scandinavians. They don't shout. They act normal. But you can definitely see that attention has been paid to everything. Your hair is combed. Your skin is cared for. Your home is cool yet cozy. Everything fits in every situation, it never sounds out of tune and no one will ever take offense at your look. Scandinavian is understated but not complicated. It closely relates to how we Dutch are put together.
When it comes to glasses, I am a fan of the Scandinavian school. Your day glasses should be beautiful, but not so eye-catching that they can't be worn in certain situations. Even if you are a supporter of multiple glasses, you won't have twelve to choose from. Your glasses must be suitable for everything from job interviews to speed dates.
Today I have good news, because Specsavers is introducing two Scandinavian brands into the collection: Day Birger et Mikkelsen and SCANDIMANIA. Ideal if you are not team bling and big, bigger, biggest. The choice is huge as there are 28 Scandinavian frames included in the collection. Price starting at €139 for two frames. That seems like a køøpje to me. Specsavers.nl
