Never again take your muslin cloths out of the house
During my pregnancy I got one checklist after another thrown at me. I can understand at least six onesies in the first size: if there are just three spit-up sessions in a day, you’re doing laundry twice a day. But when I saw six muslin diapers on the list, I took this with a grain of salt: what on earth do I need so many muslin cloths for? Little did I know: these miracle cloths can be used for everything, and I mean everything. Spit-up sessions, when there’s a spill, a big runny nose, you name it. They are spread in abundance throughout the house, and wherever I stand or sit with Otis, there’s always a fresh one within reach. But what to do with all those cloths once your little one is not so little anymore? Remember I said they are usable for everything? After this list, you will never, ever throw your muslin cloths out of the house.
- Citrus juicer: wrap the muslin cloth around half a lemon and it keeps all the pulp and seeds out. Ideal when you need to squeeze lemon juice for a recipe, but don’t feel like getting that whole citrus juicer out.
- Make-up cleansing wipe: I swear by muslin cloths as a cleaning cloth for your face. You thoroughly remove all dirt, plus you exfoliate the skin in a gentle and natural way. So say goodbye to those expensive exfoliants.
- Cleaning cloth in the house: all dirty countertop and table cloths can go in the trash, your ‘old’ muslin cloth absorbs better than any other cloth. Not only handy for damp surfaces but also for dusting.
- Shoe polisher: my shoes have never been so nicely polished since we started using a muslin cloth for it. And you can keep using the same cloth over and over again, as the shoe polish is well absorbed.
- Scent bags: are you a bit handy with the sewing machine or just needle and thread? Make small bags and fill them with fresh lavender, potpourri, or a piece of fabric with a few drops of essential oil. Place such a scent bag between your towels or clothes and everything smells wonderfully clean, even if it’s been in your closet for a while.
Glasses cleaner: you can also make the perfect glasses cloth from your old muslin cloth. It’s handy to cut a piece off to prevent your bag from being filled all at once. - Towel: for a day at the beach or pool, I use a muslin cloth not only for Otis but also for ourselves. Plus: they dry much faster than those heavy towels.
