No way: nice weather is really expensive

In the summer, 35% of people say they spend more money than on a dull, gray autumn day. Well, that surprises us zero point zero.

Because my god, that summer is pricey. Rosé at the beach, a little boat trip there, hopping between four terraces on a Monday evening, and of course also packing a picnic in the park on Tuesday. We just do it. Because that's how it goes, in these summer times. And that costs money.

Four out of ten people spend the most money in the summer compared to the rest of the year, it turns out. We understand, because there is something fun to experience every day in our own country. And we want to experience something fun every day. And besides the sunshine in your own backyard, we also like to go on vacation. Each year, the Dutch collectively spend about 15 billion euros on vacations, reports CBS. Pack your bags and go, because no less than 60% of people like to use vacation money to ‘splash out' to an exotic destination. Although Schubbekutteveen is currently still tropical, since it has been scorching hot in Holanda for centuries. We like it, don't get us wrong.

Anyway. That expensive summer. Because the sun still rises for nothing, dealing with the bills that appear on the table after the drinks. One in three people says they spend much more money on a summer day than usual. Wherever they are, huh, Holland or Bora Bora. A summer day is when it is 25 degrees or warmer. That's fine, nice, yay, but... It has been bloody summer in the Netherlands for about 16 weeks now. That makes us instantly thirsty for rosé and white beer.

No, it’s not easy for our wallet (is it December already? can we rhyme yet?), this nice weather. You've already worn your favorite dresses forty times to work and you're more than fed up with your summer wardrobe. Normally, you only have six nice days in a whole Dutch summer, and look now. There’s even a chance of a heatwave next week with temperatures of 40 degrees plus.

Man man man, we already have pity for our credit card. And for ourselves, of course. We need at least a whole rainy autumn to recover from this, you understand. And an icy winter: also no problem.
