Why you become happy from nice weather

5 proofs

Today it is 26 degrees. At least, that is what is predicted. I'm not writing this piece today, of course. Give me a day off too, will you? But at the moment I'm writing, my weather app shows a solid 26 degrees and that is good news because it makes us just a little bit happier today. According to Het Parool, it all comes down to this.

1. Vitamin D

Through sunlight, we produce vitamin D and that in turn leads to the production of dopamine, which makes us happy.

2. Daylight

This doesn't necessarily have to do with the sun, but when the sun shines, we are outside more, so we get more daylight. Daylight is what really makes us happy. It breaks down stress hormones. Have you ever seen a stressed farmer? Well then.

3. The gift effect

We don't live in LA where it's an exception if it rains once in a while. For us, a sunny day is a gift, a treat. We want to make the most of it and therefore enjoy it even more. Where is the terrace? There is the terrace.

4. Herd behavior

Just as we all complain when it rains (even though you might not find it that terrible), we all swoon at the sun. Because everyone mentions it, you do too and become even more aware of the joyful day.

5. You become active

Because it's pleasant outside, you are more likely to go for a walk (by the way, did you know that walking is the new terrace) or cycling. This makes you eligible again for points 1 and 2.

6. But oh dear

If you are not cheerful already, it only gets worse. Everyone who thinks that a bit of sun is the medicine and that it doesn't work for you. Then you just feel more miserable. So it's not true that the number of people suffering from depression decreases in the summer.

But I would say; seize the sun, before you know it, we are all back under the umbrella.
