River Cafe 30

Whether I wanted to go back and forth to London for the launch of the new cookbook from The River Cafe. You understand, I certainly won't say no to that. Anyway, you can drop me in London anytime, because I once lived here with Mr. X and I miss the city every day. But not just the city, because The River Cafe is also among my favorite spots. Anyway, that lunch was already a party in itself. We ate, we drank, we chatted with Ruth herself and with full bellies we stepped back on the plane WITH the cookbook. Since that lunch, I've cooked something from the new book every week. The tomato sauce is the tastiest thing you've ever eaten and so simple. Simple, modern Italian dishes with seasonal ingredients; that's the strength of the River Café kitchen. River Cafe 30 contains the 90 best recipes from then + 30 completely new recipes. Every lover of Italian cuisine must have this book on their shelf.

FAT

Bas Robben is sure of it: fat is tasty, makes you fat-happy, and without fat there is no life. After his successful cookbook SOUR, he decided to dive into the world of fat. In FAT, you will find not only exciting recipes, but also discover the function of butter in puff pastry. Bas teaches you in this book the differences between saturated and unsaturated fats and goes a step further than just that splash of olive oil, stick of butter, or walnut oil in your vinaigrette. Let yourself be immersed in the world of lard, schmaltz, beef tallow, ghee, and homemade butter.

Fresh start

Not a brand new book but definitely a book you want to have on the shelf. Fresh Start from the one and only American Chef was released earlier, in 2014, and is a book for anyone who needs a little boost after the holidays (and the dead months of January and February). Martha shows the ’normal’ woman how to feel healthy, fit, and energetic without just nibbling on celery sticks. In the book, you'll find numerous delicious, healthy recipes, a simple 3-day cleanse, and a 21-day detox. The complete go-to guide for an energy boost so you can head into summer looking great. Do you want to, I want to.

Eat happy

Another one from the list of favorite books on the shelf. A new gem from one of the Hemsley sisters. In Eat Happy, you and Melissa can prepare a delicious, healthy, and quick meal in under thirty minutes. Definitely don't open this book when your stomach is already growling because the images look dangerously tasty. I'm talking about a roasted cauliflower salad with Vietnamese dressing, a warm celeriac salad Nicoise, or the Za'atar chicken from the oven with lemon herb dressing. I know where I'll be spending this weekend. Who's coming over for dinner?
