This is the reason why people cheat
I have mentioned it a few times in previous posts, but I was once deceived by an old love of mine. We were together for about two years then, maybe even a little longer, but my then love, whom I was still incredibly fond of and hopelessly in love with, returned from a vacation with friends and had something too cozy with another lady. Painful doesn’t cover it. Anyway, long story short: we did stay together because I firmly believe that mistakes are human.
The Journal of Sex Research itself conducted research to find out what the real reason is that people cheat. Following that research, it turns out there are 77 different reasons why people are unfaithful, but there was clearly one reason that predominated: lack of love. ‘The normal feeling you have when someone cheats is that you think the cheater is no longer in love, but the most accurate reasoning is actually that the cheater no longer feels loved by his or her partner,’ says relationship expert Chelsea Leigh Trescott.
Your partner misses appreciation, attention, and playfulness in your relationship, only the mistake he makes is that he doesn’t take the effort to communicate this; the healthy way to help your relationship. Nope, he opts for infidelity. Other reasons that scored high in this research for cheating were the following:
1. More sexual partners
Yes, this also turned out to be a reason for people to jump into bed with someone else. Gaining more experience with other people. ‘To broaden their sexual horizons’, shall we say.
2. Alcohol
Still, the ‘I was drunk’ excuse is still very common. That he or she could no longer think clearly after a few too many drinks.
3. To give their own ego a boost
Seeing if they are still attractive, so to speak. Or people who feel very insecure (in a relationship or about themselves) and then deal with it in the wrong way by seeking comfort with other people instead of their own partner.
4. Because they are angry
Some people cheat out of revenge. Perhaps his or her partner has also cheated before and there is an unreasonable amount of jealousy involved. Look, then your partner choice is probably not the best, but that is still no reason to cheat. Talk to each other.
5. Purely and simply for sex
Maybe he thinks he has too little sex or just has a high libido. Some people cheat purely and simply because they have an enormous need for sex. A lot of sex.
