This mysterious series keeps Kiek in its grip

A very good morning, your series freak is back at your service. After The Split with Barry Atsma (come on, still not seen it?) I fell back into a little dark hole that, thank god, has now been filled. The answer? Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Yes, that's the name of a brand new BBC First series. One that makes our fashion hearts beat faster because it's all high fashion all the time. No wonder designers like Oscar de la Renta, McQueen, and Dior have been inspired by the original film adaptation. Can someone tell me where I can buy those white layer dresses because I'm heading straight into the city.

Anyway, Picnic at the Hanging Rock then. For those who recognize the name: the book was written in 1967 and eight years later the story became world-famous due to Peter Weir's film adaptation. Long story short? Picnic at Hanging Rock is set in Australia around the year 1900. On Valentine's Day, three girls disappear during a picnic school trip at the eerie Hanging Rock mountain range. Quite mysterious all of it. Panic sets in among the other students, the staff, and the village due to their disappearance. People become paranoid and one conspiracy theory after another pops up. A case of you Must. Watch. Until. The. End to know what happened.

Fun fact is that there are also a number of familiar faces in it. Do we still know Natalie Dormer (hint hint: Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games)? She plays the lead role, Hester Appleyard, the mysterious headmistress of the boarding school. And what about Yael Stone (a.k.a. Lorna Morello in Orange is the New Black) You get it: you want to check this out. Even if it's just for the fairy-tale costumes. So mark it in your calendar: next Sunday, August 12 at 21:00 on BBC First. You can thank me later.
