This series is even better than Suits
And you’ll never guess who the new Harvey Specter is
Are you in a series slump? Checked everything on Netflix? Missing Suits? Oh friends, friends, do I have good news for you today. I’ve discovered a sort of new Suits. Correction: it’s even better than Suits. The name is ‘The Split’, a lawyer/drama series on BBC First that starts tonight (you hear me? to-night).
I’ve secretly seen a thing or two. One of the perks of working in an editorial office, I guess. Why am I so enthusiastic about The Split? Here it comes.
1. Barry. Atsma. Plays. Lawyer. In. Suit. I repeat: Barry. Atsma. Plays. Lawyer. In. Suit. Error. In. Top. Move. Over. Harvey. Specter.
2. By the way, we should really be super proud of Barry, because he’s managed to be the only Dutchman in an otherwise completely British top cast. And yes: he plays the smooth guy. With a good accent! Man, even I am proud.
3. The series takes place in the fast-paced world of divorce lawyers in London. Barry plays the role of Christie Carmichael, a top lawyer specializing in divorces of the rich and famous. And without giving too much away: the scandals are flying around the table. Entertaining? Yes, girl, yes.
4. No, it’s not just about Barry (too bad); we follow top lawyer Hannah (Nicola Walker), her sister Nina (Annabel Scholey), and her mother Ruth (Deborah Findley) in the series. They encounter all sorts of issues (rival law firms, family ties being destroyed, disastrous relationships, affairs at work; you name it) and it’s downright delicious.
5. The nice thing about this series is: you’re hooked within ten minutes. I’m allergic to series that you have to watch a whole season before ‘something’ happens. No way, The Split crackles from the screen from the very first episode. Nice!
6. How ridiculous is it that we binge-watch beautiful series nowadays in three ‘marathon nights’? Back to basics, friends. A fixed day of the week to curl up on the couch for your favorite show. Bet that’s more fun?
Alright, I think the point is made: if you’re ready for something delightful, tune in to BBC First tonight at 9:00 PM. Just remember to grab some fresh microwave popcorn and you’re good to go. Barry, we’re ready for you!
P.S. And don’t panic, if you can’t watch tonight, Wednesday at 10:00 PM, Friday at 9:00 PM, Saturday at 11:00 PM, and Sunday at 10:15 PM are the reruns. So no more excuses for missing it.
