About people who come and people who go
Jet on the app. She is in New York with her loved one. Just taking a break from all the hustle. Just looking at her Insta Stories made me short of breath. Shoot for her book, in London for recordings for her TV show ‘Not Healthy Anymore’, a collaboration with a car brand, singing with Humberto Tan in the dressing room at RTL Late Night... Now just catching my breath. ‘One more question,’ she texted me, followed by a photo of a bag. Whether she should buy it. Of course, she should. If anyone deserves it...
A day later, I text Liesbeth. She is giving a presentation about travel (with tips and undoubtedly all hilarious anecdotes) during our event The House of Amayzine on Saturday. I ask if she can record a short video for our readers. She texts back a photo of her legs. Under the paint. That she is not presentable. The funny thing is that Manon Meijers (who is also giving a lecture and whom I asked the same) texted me a photo of her post-sport face without makeup and said she was unfortunately not able to do it today. Back to Lies: the next day she was on Boulevard and had a ‘face’, so she could do it.
I thought of the girls. Of Jet, how I got to know her that day on the beach in Puglia. That she didn't quite know what her path was yet, but it was already very clear that she wanted to be honest and help others. About how she took off and how sad I was because of that. But also how proud I am of her. Two books, a third in the making, and now a documentary.
Then Lies. She was still studying when she arrived fifteen minutes early for our job interview. Her pieces that came in. Her hilarious adventures. The Proenza bag that she refused to put on the floor in the airplane and that eventually got its own seat. Her flight that she missed due to the time difference. Her way too expensive designer boots that she absolutely had to have and for which she borrowed Josselin's credit card to buy the boots NOW NOW NOW. By the way, she sold the boots again during one of her famous Insta Stories sales, because Lies is decluttering to be able to travel and write a book about it. And because of that, she regularly joins RTL Boulevard again.
People come and people go. On to a new horizon. I am proud that Amayzine has been able to facilitate a link in that process. Simone is at a point in her life where she is broadening her perspective. She is going to focus on what is important to her. That is sad and that is good. We miss her coffees and pickles with sambal, but the oat milk stays in the fridge so that when she is around, she can join for a cup. Or even better: that you make one for us and everything is back to normal for a moment. Take care, Simone. Thank you for everything.
