Why Carolien's food shawl had to be created
You may have noticed that last week was an exciting week for me: on Monday we officially launched our new label Lemej: luxury nursing shawls for mothers who breastfeed. Fortunately, we received a lot of positive feedback, but like with any new product, many questions are also raised. Or rather, comments that are carelessly thrown onto the internet without doing proper research first. I would love to answer the most frequently asked questions, and if you have any pressing questions: don't hesitate to email me: carolien@lemejamsterdam.com.
This product already existed, right?
Absolutely, Evelyne and I used a so-called nursing apron during our breastfeeding period. Not very charming, I can tell you. But the principle works the same: you hang it around your neck so that the little one can't pull it off. Thanks to the boning at the top, the fabric always stays open, allowing you to maintain eye contact with your baby and see well what is happening down there. A fantastic product and soon an item we couldn't do without. We were just quite annoyed by the execution: the fabric was made of stiff cotton and not exactly breathable. Not to mention the prints: as if you were literally wearing a dish towel. This could be prettier, we thought. And thus the idea was born to develop a luxury nursing shawl that is both functional and stylish.
Why should you shield your child?
We absolutely do not claim that you should shield your baby when breastfeeding in public. However, many mothers still feel uncomfortable breastfeeding in public and feel restricted in their mobility because of it. Our nursing shawl hopefully offers a bit more freedom to go out with your brand new ‘plus one’ more quickly. Additionally, Otis was easily distracted when I breastfed in public, so I used the nursing shawl to create a calm and ‘safe’ moment, allowing Otis to be fed anywhere and at any time of the day.
That price!
In the lower segment, the nursing cloth already existed, and we wanted to design a beautiful, luxury variant. You can buy a white shirt at a large retail chain or a white shirt in a nicer fabric at a lovely boutique. Our shawl is made of a beautiful wool/silk blend, so it breathes well and feels wonderful for both you and your baby. You also receive a small hydrophilic cloth in the same style with the shawl, plus a luxury storage bag, so you can easily take the package with you anywhere.
