Why having a small group of friends is cool
In high school, you want nothing more than to have forty-five best friends. That's cool. Then you're popular.
But just as everything changes in life, so do friendships. Those forty-five besties get cut down to five besties. And that's really not a big deal. No. Having a small friend group is actually super trendy.
It means that you have a busy life A cool life. With colleagues, sports, a loving family that you enjoy seeing, and also a lovable partner. Then there's hardly any time left to maintain those countless ‘well okay-ish’ friendships. And what happens, then, with that fancy life of yours? You start trimming your circle of friends. Inevitably, unconsciously, without any bad intentions, some friendships from the past fade away. Subtly and unnoticed, some contacts slip away. You simply don't have time for everything and everyone anymore, and that's not a problem. Because you have a super nice, happy and rich life. Especially with those five friends you have left.
Because the nice thing is: you know exactly what you have with these girls. You know when to call whom, you know what to expect from each friend, and you are aware of the beautiful thing you have. You cherish these people and keep them close. Because they are worth a lot to you. Every single day. You no longer have to pretend to be fun with people you only half know and who you only half find funny. It saves you a lot of energy. You spend your time with people who truly make you happy. Who give you energy. You value a dinner with one real friend more than sitting at a table with fifteen people you barely know.
So, for those who want to be trendy: just cut them out of that friend group. It's really not scary. You can easily pick out the real gems.
