Why you especially shouldn't ask for a higher salary in October and November

With the Christmas holidays in sight, you might think: wow, I could use some extra cash. But it's better to wait a bit.

Don't just pull your boss's hair to suggest that you want a higher salary: now is the worst time of the year to do this. October and November are definitely NOT the months to start whining about a raise. Companies are making their balance, checking what has been spent this year and how much profit has been made. There's a good chance they are not looking forward to extra costs in the last months of the calendar year.

The best time to talk about more euros in your account? Spring. That's when bosses are open to new rates and new tasks. You have the best chance of a promotion in the spring and summer. You don't even have to stand on your head to get your way. And whether you find it difficult to talk about money or not, just do it when spring comes. If you ask now, you will hear ’no‘ faster, and that's only bad for your self-confidence.

So be nice and lazy this autumn and just relax. Once the holidays are over, you will get to work and do everything you can to confidently ask for that extra money in April. And you will get it. Not now. Patience.
