Why you should not go on vacation in the fall

As soon as you see the first rainy, gray, dull morning after those sweltering days and suddenly have to ride your bike with a scarf, you can only think of one thing: vacation. Away from that autumn and quickly.

Yet it’s not such a smart plan to go away in the autumn. Most Dutch people leave at the end of July and the beginning of August with screeching tires goes on vacation., but there are also plenty who postpone the holiday fun until September or October. Don’t do it, because you enjoy the vacation more in the summer, when everyone is away and you can lounge in the sun on the beach. Otherwise, you’ll feel so miserable in that empty office and a summer dip is lurking around the corner.

Moreover, you’d better soak up some extra vitamin D in a tropical place during the winter, because your body needs it then. In the autumn months, you can still rely on that summer time in your own country, but in January and February, you literally crave some fresh energy. Otherwise, yes, you’ll have to deal with a winter dip. You seriously need vitamin D in the winter: we all have a deficiency during that dark time. You get it through daylight, but we don’t have much of that in this dreary time.

So save your pennies for that time after Christmas and New Year’s. Make sure you have that buffer to book a beach week in the middle of that long January month with your love or bestie. It will refresh you. And you really need it more than in September, believe us, even if it still seems so nice to turn on your out of office again.

Alright, and for the real luxury lovers among us: you can of course do both. Just go for cocktails on the beach in September AND in February at the beach then that long, cold winter will be a breeze.
