You can still eat these products past their expiration date

At our home, the pantry is overflowing with packages, bags, and jars. If oatmeal is on sale, I buy four bags right away. Discount on buckwheat flour, just fill the cart. And also the soba noodles, brown rice and cartons of shelf-stable oat milk can be found in abundance. Some products you can just never have enough of at home, you know, I know. Does this sound like music to your ears? Then it has probably happened that you found out after a while that you were just a bit too enthusiastic: half the stock past the expiration date. And okay, fresh items are better eaten right away and thrown away if expired, but there are also thousands of products that you can still eat perfectly fine after the expiration date. Like these for example…

  • Flour and dry cookies
  • Pasta (the dried variety)
  • Chocolate (but WHY would that bar even reach the expiration date...)
  • Peanut butter, sprinkles, jam, and other sweet spreads (the more sugar, the longer the expiration date)
  • Muesli and cornflakes
  • Eggs (the trick that always works: Put your egg in cold water, if it sinks to the bottom, you can still crack it in your pan)
  • Chips, snacks, peanuts (due to the large amount of salt, they last long, best stored in Tupperware)
  • Oil, frying fat, instant powder, and fat
  • Fry sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup (Up to about two months after the date. Check and smell beforehand if it's still good and always store in the fridge after opening)
  • Sterilized milk and custard (up to about 2 months after the date, but only if unopened)
  • Candy (because sugar)
  • Vegetables, fruit, and canned soup
  •

And these products never spoil:

  1. Honey
  2. Sugar and salt
  3. Rice
  4. Alcohol
  5. Soy sauce
  6. Vinegar
  7. Vanilla extract
  8. Herbs
