You choose a man who looks like your father
You know you are lucky when you have an awesome dad who is always there for you. With whom you can laugh. Can play sports. Can drink beer. Can talk.
I am therefore happy every day with my dearest father. How beautifully he spoke at my wedding: something I will cherish for my life. So much love, even though we never say that out loud to each other. We find that cheesy. And my father is not into that. Neither am I, you know. There are undoubtedly a whole lot of people who have a somewhat worse relationship with their father. Or with the whole family, for that matter. But whether you have good or less good contact with your relatives: the partner you seek in your life always seems to resemble your father. That has been proven.
It even has a name in psychology: the Electra complex. Sounds complicated. According to experts, it is because we unconsciously seek something that makes us feel comfortable. Or better said: we seek someone who makes us feel comfortable. Parents are, in any case, the most important role models from your youth. Not so strange then, that years later you look for someone who makes you happy in the same way. And what if you grew up without a father in the picture? Often it is then that you go for a man who is a bit older than you are.
Does it also work the other way around, that men are attracted to women who resemble their mother? Ta-da: the answer is yes. Whether you like it or not, you resemble your mother-in-law. Because she is indeed his great example against which he compares other women. The one he has chosen you over. Whether he is consciously aware of it or not, it happens, both ways. And so you actually end up as a kind of mix between your mother-in-law and your father. Uh… Sounds weird.
Oh, your own children… Just hold on to that. Because they are looking for someone who resembles you (or your boyfriend). Finally appreciation.
