10 unnecessary ridiculous facts that you're still glad to know now

Facts

Since we all apparently really enjoy totally useless info, I've decided to make it a weekly thing. So from now on on Sundays: no higher mathematics, just a simple did-you-know. completely useless info is back in the game, you know: the column with the ridiculous facts. You're welcome, huh.

1. If you work for 1 cent a day and your salary doubles every day, you'll be a millionaire in a month. On day 26 to be precise. Yes, really. Do the math.

2. Snails have ridiculously many teeth. An average garden snail has FORTY THOUSAND. These teeth are all neatly arranged row by row on their tongue. About 140 rows with around 100 little teeth on each.

3. The colder the room you sleep in, the greater the chance of nightmares.

4. In the category ‘strange but true’: you have enough iron in your body to make a 5-centimeter nail.

5. There is such a thing as omphalophobia, or: the fear of navels. Your own navel, someone else's, a photo, or even just the thought of a navel can drive some people quite crazy. Soooo.

6. Horses cannot breathe through their mouths. Now I secretly wonder a bit: what if the poor animal catches a cold?

7. Okay, you're going to find this scary. Sorry in advance. But everyone – yes, you too – has tiny creatures (mites) in their eyelashes. HELP. HELP. GET. THEM. OUT.

8. A pineapple tastes sweeter when you sprinkle salt on it. Note: it tastes sweeter, it's not actually sweeter. But there's a kind of complex magic trick happening with your tongue that will blow your mind.

9. 70 percent of all bacon in the world comes from the Netherlands. I don't know if this makes me so cheerful.

10. An average person produces about 25,000 liters of saliva in their lifetime. Enough to fill two large swimming pools. Yuck.
