Are we finally done hating on Famke Louise?

‘I think she forgot to put on her clothes’, ‘Are you pregnant or something?’, ‘Square Minecraft butt’, ‘Wow, what a disgusting body’. A small selection of the reactions to Famke's latest Instagram post.

It's something that you and I probably can't imagine. You post a photo of yourself and ten minutes later you don't even dare to read the comments. More people seem to find you ‘stupid’ rather than ‘fun’. Try to keep your back straight then. Try to find joy in posting a new photo then. Try not to become insecure about your own body then.

Oh, you know, I also made jokes about the phenomenon Famke Louise at first. I thought that the-squirting-Fernandes-bottles-in-the-supermarket-story was more laughable than I was jealous of it. Can't we make jokes about it then? Certainly. But all with a wink, right? Do we really have to stomp someone into the ground every single time? To be honest, I thought the ‘I hate Famke because everyone does it’ phase was over by now. Can't we just live and let live for a moment? And what are you even doing on her Insta if you find it all so shit, ugly, slutty, and stupid? Is Taylor's statement ‘haters gonna hate’ really true then? Is it a sport? A fun pastime? Bashing other people online and making them feel like crap?

The strange thing is: I don't think it fits this time at all. Do you eat meat? Animal abuser! Do you fly regularly? Environmental polluter! Only men speaking in a career interview? Sexist! You see: we millennials want change. We don't let ancient patterns just simmer without having something to say about it. We want diversity in fashion magazines. We don't want to see only mannequins in size 34 because we can't identify with that. We want change. On the catwalk, in the newspapers, in the magazines. Whoa, but wait a minute. In a time when we are more considerate of our fellow humans, why not do that online as well? Isn't that the biggest hypocrisy ever?

The only thing I can think of is: can we please also reunite to punish online haters? Can't we come up with a measure for that, Insta? Three shitty comments and your account gets blocked for a week? Oh wait. Instagram is already working on it. Soon they will come up with a ‘are you sure you want to post this?’ tool to combat cyberbullying. Humanity is being protected from itself. Strange that it has to be, but good that it is happening.

Oh and, Famke, remember: you were the tallest tree of all 2017/2018. You don't have to be loved by all people. Just by the right people, that’s all that counts. And for the record: I do think it's a cool photo.
