Attention, horror fans: add this Netflix movie to your watchlist

Yes, Jafar is doing great, guys. ‘Our’ own Marwan Kenzari is of course now to be admired in the cinema next to Aladdin, but it doesn't stop there. The film itself is receiving mixed reactions, but it seems that at least it is leading to a Hollywood career for Marwan. He has once again landed a good role in the new Netflix film The Old Guard. With a great cast as well: he stars alongside Charlize Theron. Doesn't seem like the least.
The Old Guard is based on an American book (to be precise, a comic book), which is about immortal mercenaries. They encounter more and more other immortals, and from then on it gets quite bloody. They want to keep their team together, but their opponents do everything to prevent that from happening. Sounds a bit sci-fi, but that's not the angle of the film; it is mainly just thrilling. Not a film for the faint-hearted, then. Anyway, Netflix knows how to handle that; I just recovered from The Perfection. Also a thrilling movie, but oh boy. My appetite was gone for a while.
The very first shots have now been filmed in Europe, so the actual filming will probably start this month. And not only our little country can be proud, Belgium is also in on it. Matthias Schoenaerts has also landed a leading role. You might already know him from the film Red Sparrow, where he starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence. So he already has experience with the A-listers.
I can definitely see the new Michiel Huisman here, you know. He is also doing well on Netflix (and certainly on the big screen, acting next to Blake Lively doesn't seem like a punishment to me). So the time when everyone always complained about Dutch acting performances is, I believe, really over. I personally think that's perfectly fine, although I still enjoy watching Costa! and Volle Maan from time to time; alternating with some quality like Undercover, I quite enjoy those guilty pleasures.
Then there's the release date: that has not been announced yet. I personally predict it will be late 2019, because Netflix usually has quite a pace in their productions. So just bridge that summer (seems doable, since I think it's going to be a sunny one) and before you know it, we can again curl up on the couch with a blanket and get spooked.
