Everything you want to know about (the finale of) Lucifer

Lucifer scene series netflix

New week, new opportunities. And we immediately start with some nice positive news. The series Lucifer has had quite a tumultuous life. It was canceled by FOX after three seasons (boo), after which the entire fan base exploded on the internet. And successfully so. Netflix picked up this viral fuss and decided to adopt Lucifer. A great relief all around, of course. That fourth season came (which was released last May), and a fifth was quickly announced. But it was also immediately mentioned that this would likely be the last one. Better than the cliffhanger of season 3, which was initially the ‘plan’, and something about not looking a gift horse in the mouth. Still a relief, then.

But then the fifth season would only get ‘ten’ episodes, so ‘just’ ten hours. Drumroll: the social media brigade rose up again. Butrrr: again successfully. This weekend it was announced that the creators have decided to add six extra episodes. SIX. Hallelujah, thank you very much. So that's six extra hours we get as a gift. As a farewell. Because even though it hasn't been officially confirmed yet, the creators have already said they are grateful for this fifth season ‘because they now have the chance to wrap up the story properly.’.

That sounds like music to my ears, because there are enough series where the ending is rushed and we deserve a worthy farewell from Lucifer Morningstar. So what can we expect? Season 4 ended with quite a cliffhanger – Lucifer turned out not to have stopped the prophecy and we saw him at the end in his familiar spot. Hell, on his throne. The big question is of course whether he and his great love Chloe can be together and whether he can hold back his devilish traits. Demon Dromos, Amenadiel, and Dr. Linda are also back. Including their baby Charlie, who was safely brought home again in the finale of season 4.

This favorite (and hottest, let’s be honest) devil is coming back, longer than expected. Sounds great, a bit of a shame that we still have to wait a while. In 2020, the episodes will be online. But hey, what I said: something about a gift horse. Keep your eyes on the prize. Six-ten hours long. Yippie-ah-yay.
