Finally: the official trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 is here

Blessed be the fruit on this Thursday. May the Lord open. I won't beat around the bush: a (too long) time ago we already got a teaser of season 3 of The Handmaid’s Tale. That was already quite good, but the trailer they dropped last night is even better. Oh guys, I’m excited. After two seasons of oppression, it seems that the measure is truly full and June (who we of course refuse to call ‘Offred’) will lead The Resistance. In secret of course, because as she says in the trailer: they know nothing about The Resistance yet. Check the trailer for yourself.

What I also need to mention about the trailer, and about the whole series by the way, is how cool the cinematography is here. They really know how to capture that raw, dystopian vibe. It gives me goosebumps. And especially that final shot, full of red hoodies. Furthermore, we can assume that season 3 will fully revolve around the resurrection of the Handmaids. Janine and Emily are back (and they are of course also part of The Resistance), and the romance with Nick seems to still be standing.

What is the highlight for me is that Serena is also fully part of The Resistance. Season 2 ended with (spoilers incoming) June deciding to stay in Gilead for her daughter Hannah. That daughter is so far the big absentee in the new trailer. But season 2 also ended with June realizing that Serena is also rebelling against the men. And it seems she is carrying that through. As much as I hated Serena in season 1, I am becoming quite Team #JuneSerena. In the trailer, June talks about having allies, and just at that moment, not-so-subtle Serena comes into view. Well, if that isn’t clear. Serena is completely on our side. Praise it. Serena the double agent. No longer ‘under His eye’. Toodaloo.

At the end of season 2, Elisabeth Moss gave several interviews, in which she makes something clear: season 3 is not necessarily hopeful. The fact that June has decided to rebel does not immediately mean that it will succeed… Okay, ‘hopeful’ is not a term I have ever used to describe The Handmaid’s Tale, but if you think this season is taking a different direction: no.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention the most important thing. Namely the date on which we can once again hang on the couch every week in suspense. Well, I’ll give you the revealing word… June 6th. In other words, just over a month. We can handle that wait, right? Exactly. Blessed be.
