If there is a brand you hope will launch a make-up line, it is Gucci. Because if there is a person who gives you all the ammunition to shape who you are as an individual, it is Alessandro Michele. We already had the clothing, the accessories, and the perfumes, and starting today there is (exclusively available at Bijenkorf and on debijenkorf.nl) Gucci make-up. And I would be quick to get it, because abroad more than a million lipsticks have already been sold in a month. Since I just don't know where to start, I'll make a list of points why these lipsticks are simply heavenly.

1. The design

Alessandro Michele thinks lipstick is the most beautiful object you can find in a handbag. It is both tempting and playful because it reminds you of crayons that children use to color. These lipsticks are truly the most beautiful of all with their golden casing or with a classic floral pattern. Michele: ‘I thought back to the lipsticks I saw when I was little, my mother's lipstick, which was always inspired by the 1950s, and I wanted to give them the most powerful meaning, that of the Hollywood divas and the mythology of film, the medium that first put lips in the spotlight.‘

2. The scent

Michele has added the scent of violets to the lipsticks. This makes applying lipstick a conscious moment.

3. The inspiration

Lipstick reminds Michele of Hollywood stars from the early last century. Their lips exuded charm, sensuality, and power.

4. The names

The reference to great Hollywood stars like Greta Garbo, Bette Davis, and Jean Harlow can also be found in the wonderful names. Themes from their films inspired the lipsticks. How happy do you get from a lipstick called ‘Love Before Breakfast’ or ‘A Royal Scandal’? And what do you think of ‘Marguerite Jade’ or ‘Eadie Scarlet’? You definitely want a cocktail of that!

5. Different variants

Because everyone wants to express themselves in their own way and everyone has their preferences, the lipsticks come in three variations. 6. Feminist ideals

Not that we spend our days pouting with a lipstick. Michele doesn't require the lipstick to be applied perfectly. Quite the opposite. In the campaign, he shows that authentic beauty lies in imperfection. To emphasize this, he chose Dani Miller, the lead singer of Surfbort who sings about politics, sexuality, and the influence of social media. A woman with a voice, in short. No casing and certainly no doll.

7. The color 25

Superstition is part of Michele and 25 is his favorite number. Therefore, his favorite lipstick from the collection (which is named ‘Goldie Red’) is a red one, because it reminds him of all those famous, powerful, red lips he remembers from his childhood.
