Hold your horses: there’s probably a spin-off of La Casa de Papel coming

Keep breathing, no panic. Think about your blood pressure. Understandable that this title does something to you, you know. It's nothing, a spin-off of everyone's favorite series. La Casa de Papel has already broken quite a few records on Netflix, and I guess that season 4 will manage to do that again. If we finally get that fourth season then, huh. Early 2020 is when that will happen, but in the meantime, producer Jesús Colmenar certainly wants us to keep talking about our favorite gang. And that's why he's teasing us with something you really shouldn't tease us with: a spin-off. Let's lay out the facts:

1. Jesús Colmenar told fans yesterday that there is absolutely a spin-off in the works. It's just still in a very early stage, or it's top secret or both. Colmenar doesn't want to reveal the plot in any case, but that could also be because he would then get a serious reprimand from the big bosses at Netflix. Anyway: the La Casa de Papel producer has confirmed that a spin-off is in the works. Good news number one.
2. Okay, he doesn't want to reveal what the plot will be, but that doesn't mean speculation isn't allowed. On the contrary. The internet went wild and I mainly looked on Twitter where it was pretty unanimous. The main character would be Berlin. Everyone was already completely sure of that.
3. Those speculations also reached Colmenar, and he could — of course — neither deny nor confirm. He felt that every character deserved their own spin-off. Yes, yes, nice politically correct answer, but we want concrete answers. Honestly, I'm totally on board if Berlin gets his own spin-off. There's a good chance that the actual filming and production will only start after the release of season 4, so I’m fine with that overlapping.

And then a little about that fourth season, because Colmenar also had something to say about that. It would be a ‘harder’ season... ‘Harder for the viewer’ were his exact words. Um, how so? That Jesús was enjoying his vague answers and vague announcements, because this is what the fans had to work with. What La Casa de Papel is also being vague about is the exact release date of season 4. But let the internet detectives figure that out. It would be about January 18th, so now you know that too.
