How not to become depressed in January

Spa resort

Spray you an extra glitter in your hair in December? In January it's the dull sweatpants, some leftover makeup, and huge bags under your eyes. The shine is gone and everyone collectively starts to sulk because it's January (or February). Don't do it, just don't do it.

I am personally pro January. You can make plans for a whole year (and have plenty of time to let them fail), close some pretty nice deals, and be a bit kinder to yourself. Even though I want to ask someone right now (it's a quarter to nine in the morning) to turn on the light outside. Hello up there, anyone? If you're completely out of sorts, with bags under your eyes down to your ankles and just grunting, take a moment to check the Insta Stories of Anna Nooshin & co (it will help) and then follow this step-by-step plan.

Do things on Monday

I'm saying it one more time: go out to eat on Monday, catch a movie on Monday, fold yourself in half at yoga on Monday; do things on Monday. It will significantly shorten your workweek. At least in your feeling, because to shorten your workweek, you really have to shorten your workweek.

Leave the Christmas lights up too long

If someone points out to you on the fifteenth of January that that tree might need to go out, just ignore it. Light is nice. In the absence of fireplaces, you still have the Christmas lights. And are you tired of that tree? Then strategically place light strings, candles, and lamps.

Don't be too hard on yourself

Are you stopping eating? Then don't stop drinking. Are you going to exercise? Get a wellness weekend. Are you stopping shopping (I'm considering this resolution)? Make agreements with yourself about the conditions and promise yourself a treat. Are you quitting smoking? Try it one more time in December.

Go away

Pack your bags and squeeze out the month of January. I say: Cape Town. No idea how I came up with that, of course, but it seems like a great place to survive the winter blues. No weeks left? Scroll through sites to see where you can indulge yourself in the sun for a long weekend.

Buy clothes

You shouldn't do that again if you're stopping shopping, but January is for hunting bargains. A designer bag for a steal, 19 items from Zara for less than 100 euros, just to name something. Go wild, it helps at least for a week.

Celebrate carnival

My trick, nothing is as uplifting as wandering from pub to pub with friends. You do a little hop and there’s another drink and you flirt and dance those dark days right out of your system. And read right away why celebrating carnival is indeed fun.
