Fan of Narcos? Then you'll definitely want to see the series Yankee.

We can't get enough of all those drug series, can we? And especially not of true stories like Narcos and Undercover. Since these true stories are starting to run out (or the cartels are becoming a bit less conspicuous), I hereby have a good fictional series tip for you. Plenty of drugs, so don't worry about that.

I'm talking about the series Yankee, which has been on Netflix for a while now. I'm only giving it to you as a tip now because I've just finished watching it; it has 25 episodes. That's quite a number. A telling detail is that the lead actor Pablo Lyle (Malcolm Moriarty in the series) is also not a sweetheart in real life. He has been charged with manslaughter. Okay then... That makes it a lot darker.

Malcolm in the series, a realtor who uses vacant houses to trade drugs. Not a foolproof plan, because soon he is forced to smuggle drugs home. Wifey and kids are absolutely not happy (understandably, I wouldn't want a husband who suddenly turns into a wholesaler), but Malcolm doesn't care much and hides the drugs in the house.

Well, and that's when the proverbial shit hits the fan. Police involved and Malcolm flees, leaving his wife and children behind. He falls into the hands of his employers who force him to go back to Mexico. Malcolm doesn't like that and he rebels. You understand: drug lords usually don't take it well when contradicted.

And so Malcolm ends up in the desert, alone and without money, food, or water. And I won't spoil more than this for you, because there should still be something left to guess about, and spoiling all 25 episodes would also be quite a book... But believe me: it's worth watching. It flows nicely, and for the heavy subjects, it's still a mindless series. Ideal for a binge night. Occasionally wonderfully over the top, here and there quite unbelievable, although we know from Narcos that nothing is too crazy, of course.

Because drug lords apparently mainly come from Mexico this film is also – surprise – in Spanish. You can immediately train your language skills. Quite a difference with Dutch, because let's face it: that Brabant accent of Frank Lammers in Undercover sounds a lot less dangerous than a little Escobar in Narcos. Boss above boss, I think.
